Anetheron

The first one is slain, gratulations, now crack open a brew, enjoy the victory and prepare for the next step. The cunning and horrifically powerful dreadlord Anetheron.

He uses only one ability but comes with infernals that drop from the sky.

Abilities

Carrion Swarm (Shadow) – His main attack on the raid. This spell hits multiple people in front of a target he chooses for 5k damage. It will also apply a debuff on you that reduces all healing you do by 75% for 20 seconds.
Vampiric Aura – Like a paladin aura, it can’t be dispelled. All of his melee attacks will heal him for 300% of the damage done.

He will summon a Towering Infernal multiple times in the fight that has the following abilities:

Inferno Effect (Fire) – Will occur at the spot the infernal lands and will AoE stun everyone at that spot for 2 seconds and does 2.4k damage.
Immolation (Fire) – This is a pulse effect and hurts everyone in the immediate area around the infernal for 2.7k damage every 2 seconds.

Class requirements

An OT with Fire Resistance gear (230+) is required to tank the infernals. Also, you may consider having more range than melee DPS as melee DPS can’t attack an infernal. Like before, you may want to bring a paladin tank along to help tank the trash waves.

The pull

Pulling this boss will be indirectly done by fighting the initial trash waves. You have to defeat 8 trash waves, once you killed the last wave, the boss will automatically engage after 10 seconds. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT talk with Jaina if you arn’t the raid leader or if you arn’t asked to do it!

The trash waves will feature the following enemies:

  • Ghoul
  • Abomination
  • Crypt Fiends
  • Banshee
  • Shadowy Necromancer

In waves with Necromancers, melee will have to get those down as quickly as possible, so they don’t animate corpses. The same applies to Banshees as those are immune to magic. The rest will be tanked on one spot and killed by AoE’s.

Positions and strategy

Anetheron will be placed next to the blacksmith’s shop in the even leveled area like shown on the map. This allows the raid to position around him in a circle, so as few people as possible get affected by Carrion Swarm at one time.

The OT (remember, you are solely on the infernals) has to be on his toes and keeps a close eye on the raid force. Position yourself so that you can reach everyone in the raid quickly, as you don’t have much time to pick up the infernals.

Once Anetheron begins channeling his Towering Infernal one raid member will be presented with a skull over his head. If you are the lucky fellow, run in any direction away from the spot you were standing. This also applies to everyone around the skull. The OT will then proceed to that spot but keep a short distance so he doesn’t get initially stunned. Then use your highest threat ability (Exorcism or Shield Slam) and move the infernal away from the raid in any direction you see fit. Please note, that the vampiric aura may also affect the infernal and make killing it needlessly complicated.

Give the OT some seconds to gain initial threat and then BLAST THE SHIT OUT OF IT.

In the meantime, the healers may struggle due to Carrion Swarm and may be forced to combine their healing on the MT. If you don’t get heals for some time, don’t hesitate to use a bandage. Though if everyone is spread out nicely, this worst case scenario shouldn’t occur.

You will see mutliple infernals drop in this fight so always keep focused on where you standing and if you are the infernals target.
