Introduction
Before broadband technology was available to almost every household, the online world of Everquest was little known to most of us in Europe. Played only by a few hardcore fans slowly across the Atlantic on US servers.
However that all changed 4 years ago when Sony brought Everquest to the UK and the rest of Europe. Putting servers into Europe that allowed great lag free gaming, coupled with a free months trial of their hit MMORPG on the cover of PC Gamer magazine. A whole new generation of EQ’ers ditched their current games and started to explore the world of Norrath on the new Venril Sathir server in the UK.
Many new guilds were formed and one of these was AoT. Formed by 4 people that had a desire to play their own style of EQ and not to be a part of the massive zerg guilds that were mass recruiting at that point.
Since those heady early days AoT has seen many changes. People have come and gone, fights have been won and lost and the games have even changed. However two things remain constant within AoT that have been there from the very start. Whilst not unique, it is because of these two factors running through our core that AoT stands out from the crowd - a sense of family and a solid reputation for decency and fair play.
To us the game we play is only a part of the overall reason why we are a part of AoT. It is not just about being the highest level or having the best gear. Rather it is about achieving goals as a united group whilst making sure we have plenty of opportunity to kick back and relax, talk about current events, share interests, lean on a friend or just mess about.
After all it’s just a game!
Like many guilds AoT have had our share of ups and downs. Through internal politics we have almost folded on more than one occasion. We have seen our numbers dwindle to a raid stopping 20 and then rise again to an unmanageable 140. We have had our run ins with the officials (GM’s) that supervise the game play. We have folded other smaller guilds into our family and we have been swallowed ourselves.
Whilst this all may seem a little negative, it is our belief that actually this stuff makes AoT so strong. You cannot just create a great guild overnight. It has to be lived, and the lessons have to be learnt, even when they are sometimes painful. Experiences such as these can only bring the guild members closer together and it is because of our long history that we can call ourselves a mature guild.
Respecting our longer standing players who have stuck with us through thick and thin and welcoming new like-minded players into our guild. To play and progress through the game together, whilst providing a real online home for those that want it.
Although we have achieved great things in terms of game play and progression as a guild, it is our proudest achievement that AoT is respected by all that know us, for our sense of fun, maturity and team spirit.
Although the guild as we know it today began it's life in Everquest, since moving to World Of Warcraft the banner has been carried on and the same basics which brought those players together all those years ago still holds them together and still attracts others to it fold. WoW has now seen AoT running through it lands for well over two years and the journey has been one hell of a ride. Through thick and thin and no matter what has been thrown in our way, the guild has still remained true to it's banner, it's identity and it's values.
This website has grown from something which was updated on a piece meal basis to an integral and important part of our outward and inward facing identity. We grouped, levelled, raided and had many social events.
Here is the section where our past exploits will live from now on. Here is a chance for all of you to share our joys and our sucesses....along with our innate silliness.
Below sees the beginnings of the WoW history of AoT and it is hoped this section will grow in the telling for many more years...
